Our provincial flower, the trailing arbutus, known as the Mayflower, is one of the first signs of
spring in Nova Scotia. From mid April to mid May, we go hunting for the
delicate pink waxy flowers. They are found close to the ground on woody
stems, hiding beneath heart-shaped evergreen leaves. Carefully picked and
brought indoors, the flowers are extremely fragrant - truly a breath of
Spring!
Nova
Scotia was the the
first of Canada’s provinces to adopt a provincial flower. |
