Design Inspiration:

While designing this ornament, I looked for an idea that would express my joys and loves: my family, our coastal areas an all the creatures that live there. As I reflected on fond memories of hot summer days at the beach, it brought to mind images of plovers. Plovers can be identified by their restless darting movements, compact bodies, and short beaks. The more common semi-palmated plover, nests on our shorelines as well as Canada's northern tundra. Piping plovers nest on Nova Scotia's white sand beaches and have become endangered due to increasing development on their very small breeding habitats.

  • The artisans at Amos Pewter are proud to be keepers of time-honoured pewter practices and methods while at the same time offering innovative designs inspired by nature and our beautiful coastal surroundings.

Amos Pewter's artisans carefully ladle hot, free-flowing molten pewter from the melting pot and capture it in a spinning mould formed from a wax sculpture carved in detail to mirror the original hand-drawn design. Once removed from the mould, each piece is carefully hand-finished in a process that ensures excellence in craftsmanship.

Amos Pewter was the first artisan shop in Nova Scotia to become a member of the international Economusee network whose mission is to showcase traditional trades and skills. Amos Pewter is crafted in picturesque Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia.
